Udo’s Choice sponsored athlete Sarah Davies wins gold at European Junior & Under 23 Championships
Udo’s Choice sponsored athlete Sarah Davies claimed gold medal at the European Junior & Under 23 Championships in Klaipeda, Lithuania, recording a combination of 88kg in the snatch lift and 113kg in the jerk and achieving first place overall with a combined total of 201kg. Sarah Davies dominated the event with her performance in the women’s under 63kg category.
Following this result Sarah said: "To win the European under 23 championships this year was truly amazing and I was not expecting to win at all heading into the championships. There were some good competitors in my category from well established weightlifting countries and to hear the British national anthem instead of theirs was truly surreal. In fact we had never had a British lifter win a European u23 championships until I did! It's still sinking in that I won and I hope to carry on this run of success forward to the European senior championships in April".
This journey started last summer when she qualified for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in Weightlifting, qualifying after totalling 190kg with an 83kg snatch and 107kg clean and jerk in the English Weightlifting Championships.
Winning gold medal in Lithuania, on top of becoming English Champion earlier in the year, makes 2015 a breakthrough year for her.
After these great wins, Sarah Davis set her sights on gold at Rio Olympic Games 2016, hoping to become the first British weightlifter to win an Olympic medal.
