Keep Ticking - Heart Health

Heart disease, heart health, and cardiovascular health are all things we become more familiar with as we age - with an increasing number of magazines and online articles popping up regarding the importance of a healthy youth to ensure future heart stability.

But, aside from getting checked regularly from any signs of heart problems once you reach the age of 40, what can you actually do to keep your heart in check and ensure that you keep ticking along nicely into middle and old age?

In this article, we explore some of the best things you can do now, to ensure you have plenty of happy and healthy tomorrows.

Reduce stress

If there’s one thing that many individuals who suffer early heart attacks have in common, it’s high stress lifestyles and careers. When we get stressed, our heart rate and blood pressure both see huge spikes in activity, which in turns puts more pressure on the heart. Learn to slow down, engage in positive mindful activities, and take time out.

Eat healthily

It’s never too early to cut down on artery-clogging fat and carbohydrate-rich food and boost the number of different colours and vegetables in your diet.

As well as fruit and vegetables, a healthy diet should include plenty of protein, fibre, and omega 3 - the latter of which can also be accessed with a high-quality supplement like Cleanmarine.

Exercise more

From keeping you fit, to helping you maintain a strong physique, to lowering your blood pressure and risk of heart attack, there are endless reasons why more exercise is a good idea. To make that 30 minutes of intense exercise a day easier to achieve, find something you love and mix and match your different activities - keeping you moving as regularly and often as possible.

Focus on making good lifestyle choices

Lowering your alcohol intake and cutting out smoking are two of the best things you can do for your heart health, both now and in the future. Not only will limiting or cutting out these substances altogether benefit your physical and mental health, but it is also heavily linked to the decreased risk of heart attack.

Monitor your nutritional levels

We’ve already talked about the importance of omega 3 and other vitamins that come from a healthy diet, but that’s not all you should be doing to keep your heart healthy and happy.

One thing which is closely linked to heart disease is a rise in homocysteine levels, which are elevated by everything from a poor diet to high caffeine and alcohol intake. When these levels rise, you become a higher risk target for cardiovascular disease - with homocysteine commonly used as a factor in predicting those who will suffer from heart problems as they age.

Ingesting Vitamins B6 and B12 can help to break these levels down - both of which are found in a selection of healthy foods as well as in Cleanmarine’s products for both men and women.

Know the signs and don’t delay

Finally, if you recognise some of the early symptoms of heart problems, or you know that your family has history of heart and cardiovascular issues, then make sure to get checked by your GP as early as possible. The earlier these conditions are caught, the more can be done to treat and manage them.

For reference, some of the signs of heart disease include chest pain, swollen ankles, and shortness of breath. It is important to understand that the symptoms of heart disease vary across different individuals, and that there is no minimum age at which heart disease can be found. If you have any concerns about your health or the health of a loved one, get checked as early as possible.
