Driffield winner Peter Lynas being congratulated by David Gunning, Marketing Manager for Udo's Choice
Driffield hosted the 2nd of the Udos Choice Triathlon Race Series this year and proved to be very competitive with the time between 1st and 3rd being just 32 seconds. The winner this year, Peter Lynas of “TFN” finished in 53 mins 57 secs with last year’s winner Oliver Dixon of “Ceepo TFN RT” finishing 3rd. Seperating the two was Andy Martin of “Army Triathlon Association” just 11 seconds behind the winner. Congratulations to all three for a terrific race.

Getting out of the pool in 9th position Peter Lynas realed the competitors ahead of him in during the bike and run legs completing the bike leg in 3rd fastest time and the run in 4th fastest. Andy Martin completed both bike and run legs in the fastest times but had just a little too much to make up after leaving the water 19th fastest missing the win by those elusive 11 seconds.
16 competitors finished the race under the hour mark with the fastest female coming in at 59 minutes 53 secs – Melanie Hayward of Barracuda Tri Club. 2nd and 3rd placed females where both from the same club – Holmfirth Harriers – Kath Farquhar and Rachael Mellor (last years fastest female) respectively with extremely close times of 1:00:32 and 1:00:36. With these times Kath and Rachael also took 1st and 2nd in the Female over 40’s category
The Male over 40’s race was also a close run thing with 98 seconds separating the top 3. The eventual winner of this category was Will Kaye from White Rose Triathletes with a time of 55 mins 9 secs which also placed him 4th overall on the day. 2nd placed in this category was Phil Goode with 56:36 and Steve Rimmer of Holmfirth Harriers with 56:47.
The Udos Choice Triathlon Race Series moves onto Allerthorpe by York on 20th June for an open water swim triathlon – again a sprint distance of 750:20:5 so if you are a novice or a veteran of the sport and would like to compete in this very popular event please visit www.freebirdevents.co.uk
