Congratulations to Udo’s Choice ambassador, Britain’s Helen Jenkins, who finished 1st at this weekend’s Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Champion Series – her first gold since her world title win in Vancouver in 2008.
Helen came out of the swim in 14th place, 13 seconds behind the leader, caught up during the bike leg to complete that section in 11th position but then powered her way through the run to win by 7 seconds, despite having struggled with a cold all week. She was thrilled to be standing on top of the podium, which included new first-time medallist Gwen Jorgensen and Anja Dittmer.
“Oh, it hurt so much, normally when you win you are like ‘oh yeah, it’s easy’, but that hurt” she said. “It’s a massive relief - It gives me a good year to focus on the Olympics and it’s great to know your training has worked.”
The incredible victory means that Helen has met the qualifying criteria for the London 2012 Olympics so we at Udo’s Choice HQ will certainly be cheering Helen on at the Olympics next year.
Helen has shown superb consistency this year with two Silver Medals in her last two races and now a Gold. The fact that she won the race on
home soil and on the course that the athletes will use at next years Olympics only makes this victory sweeter.
