Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria represent the two most important families of Lactic Acid Bacteria found in humans. Both contribute to maintain healthy intestinal flora and maximize immune system functions. The main difference between the two families resides in the fact that Lactobacilli are mostly found in the small intestine while Bifidobacteria are located in the colon. In that sense, it is important to note that a ‘’complete’’ microbiotic formulation should contain strains from both families in order to have a variety of probiotic strains allowing to cover the entire intestinal tract.
